Cruise Control: Staying Grounded This Season and New Year’s Resolutions

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is fun and exciting—but can be exhausting. Too often, we get caught up in the gifts and the decorations, and we lose sight of what this time of year is all about.

This year, how will you practice giving selflessly to others? How will you stay grounded in the business of the season and find time to be thankful?

Celebrity health coach Jorge Cruise shares how he stays grounded during the holidays, what giving back looks like in his life, and why waiting until the new year to make changes isn’t the way to go.

The holiday season is all about giving—how and why do you practice giving?

Jorge Cruise: My whole career revolves around the practice of giving. Growing up in a Mexican family meant we ate a ton of carb-heavy foods loaded in grease. This led me and my family to have a number of health complications. At 16 years old, my appendix burst and I almost died. Two years later, my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and doctors said he only had one more year to live. Luckily, my dad joined an institute that corrected his health through holistic healing. This did wonders for my dad, and he is still alive to this day because of it. Witnessing the powerful effects of natural medicine and healthy eating changed everything for me. I realized how important life is and decided to dedicate my life to helping others regain their health the way my dad restored his.

During such a busy season, how do you find time to stay grounded and be more present?

JC: During the busy holiday season and throughout the entire year really, I like to make a list of the things I am grateful for over a cup of coffee in the morning. This helps me stay grounded and keeps me in a positive mindset throughout the day.

Are there any traditions you and your family practice during the holiday season?

JC: During the Christmas holiday, my husband Sam and I and our two boys Owen and Parker like to watch Christmas movies and just spend quality time with one another. There is nothing more special than spending Christmas with loved ones.

Do you have a new year’s resolution?

JC: I think resolutions are a fancy way of procrastinating. It’s great to set up goals for the future, but time is limited, so why wait until the new year to start something? I don’t have a New Year’s resolution, but my goal is to work toward becoming a better version of myself each day. I do this by loving others well, living each moment to the fullest, and constantly learning new things.
