Are You the Next Olympic Hopeful?
24 Hour Fitness and the U.S. Olympic Committee are looking for athletes to represent Team USA.
The Olympic Winter Games 2018 are probably not top of mind—especially since it’s only the first week of summer. But if you’re an athlete, perhaps they should be.
Tomorrow, Saturday, June 24, in nearly two dozen 24 Hour Fitness clubs across the country, everyday athletes are putting their skills to the test, and trying out for a chance to compete for a spot on Team USA at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Whether you’re a competitive athlete, former athlete or just a fitness fanatic, you can try out for a chance to advance among contenders considered for one of four sports: bobsled, skeleton, rugby or track cycling. Those selected will go on to train with 100 other U.S. Olympic hopefuls, and may even be featured on NBC Sports Network—but only eight will be selected to train for a spot on Team USA.
No experience is necessary, but this competition is not for the faint of heart: You will need speed and strength to be considered a contender, with six stations testing your agility and athleticism.
Interested in participating? Here are three tips to prepare yourself to bring your best performance.
- Prepare Your Mind. Think about your dream—your big why. Why do you want to do this? What is motivating you? Find your source of inspiration and chase that.
- Prepare Your Body. Get a good night’s sleep, hydrate and eat to properly fuel your body. Make sure to also stretch and warm up before performing any movements. (Who knew that these exercises we did as kids in gym class are now used by some of the best athletic coaches and trainers in the world to find “hidden Olympic talents”?)
- Prepare Your Soul. Get your friends and family involved—bring them along to cheer you on. You’re trying out for Team USA, and there is a world of support around you, including the coaches and support staff at your local gym, so take advantage of that!
